Advanced/Professional level Humphrey technique class
held in London, taught by Kate McMonagle and Jillian Hopper, in association with the Doris Humphrey foundation UK.
This class is aimed at dancers who have previous training in Humphrey technique, or professional dancers.
Doris Humphrey is acknowledged as one if the pioneers of Modern Dance, alongside Martha Graham and Charles Weidman. The technique began to evolve in the 1920's, becoming more formalised through time. The technique is based on the principle of Fall and Recovery - the 'giving in' to and 'resistance' to gravity. Within this technique comes the elements of suspension; use of breath; successional flow; wholeness of movement; breath rhythm; oppositional motion; and change of weight.
